Most of what she is wearing was either thrifted, gifted, or re-purposed, like the hat she made out of a recycled wool sweater. What Are Your Winter Style Secrets?

We have had a pretty cold start to winter in New York City and it's been a bit to difficult to find style inspiration in a sea of black and brown puffy coats. My friend Maureen braved the cold, puffy coat aside, to come visit me and show me her brand new pink do. After I snapped a quick portrait of her she got back into her coat and headed for the nearest cafe. Maureen's gorgeous scarf and statement glasses are the perfect accessories to add some color and fun to her sensible winter coat. What are your winter style secrets?

When I'm out on the street looking for people to photograph I am often drawn to men and women who have a signature look. Most of the ladies and gentleman who appear on this blog eschew the latest trends in favor of their own distinct personal style. Gai Gherardi, co-founder and designer of l.a Eyeworks, is a perfect example of someone dresses in a style all her own. Maryann

Maryann is one of the most creative dressers I know. I love the way she mixes different textures and fabrics, and adds her own handmade embellishments to create a style that is both on trend and truly unique. Maryann describes the act of dressing up as, "A creative process that brings me closer to my “Self”. It doesn’t really occur to me that people would have a hard time with this; it’s a natural part of my day. My husband asked me recently “What would you call that look?”, and I answered, “It’s just me!”
